Anderson Joins New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence Regional Advisory Council

The Family Counseling Center is recognizing Amanda Anderson, Director of its Domestic Violence Program.

Anderson was recently elected as the New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NYSCADV) Regional Council Co-Representative for the Capital District. She joins Christine Rodriguez, Chief Program Officer of Equinox Inc. of Albany. The position is a two-year term.

The NYSCADV Regional Advisory Council provides a platform for domestic violence programs across the state to discuss local issues and find opportunities to collaborate in order to provide the best advocacy and care possible for individuals seeking assistance.

The Domestic Violence Program of Fulton County has been working with individuals for over 40 years. It provides free and confidential services to anyone affected by domestic abuse. The goal of the program is to empower victims and survivors, assist them in regaining control of their lives, and ultimately move toward healing. Staff advocate on behalf of their clients while working in conjunction with other agencies. The program includes non-residential support, a legal advocate, safe shelter, and 24-Hour Hotline.

“It is an honor to have been elected by my peers and I look forward to working with Christine as Co-Chair,” said Anderson. “The work we do is hard and it’s emotional. Having a dedicated committee of colleagues who are experiencing the same things, creating a space where we can discuss what is going on in our region, and how it affects our programs, our staff, and most of all our clients, is invaluable.”

“We are proud of the work Amanda and her team do each and every day,” said Michael L. Countryman, Executive Director of The Family Counseling Center. “Her leadership of the Domestic Violence Program of Fulton County has helped us make strides in community building, increasing partnerships and awareness of this important and devastating issue.”
