February Donation Appeal

The Family Counseling Center of Fulton County is launching our February appeal, asking community members to donate in order to help neighbors in need.

The Family Counseling Center has worked for the past 47 years in Fulton and Montgomery Counties, aiding individuals, families, and children navigate mental and behavioral health issues. Throughout the organization’s history, its mission has remained resolute: To offer the skills, support, and guidance needed to assist all individuals and families in its service area with living their healthiest lives.

The Family Counseling Center is based in the heart of our community.

The organization’s school-based counselors work with children from elementary to high school age in Fulton and Montgomery Counties. In 2024, they are expanding student-focused services to include the addition of staff at Fulton Montgomery Community College. Their team, in partnership with school staff, help to empower students and their families seek the support and guidance needed to navigate mental health challenges and access the services needed to thrive.

Across the country, rural residents face barriers to care – access, acceptability, and availability. These barriers and the stressors of living in rural and semi-rural areas equate to double the suicide risk than the national average, and over double the rates of depression.

In Fulton and Montgomery Counties, financial constraint is an added burden. While there is a large portion of clients who have insurance, some of the needed services provided by The Family Counseling Center may not be covered. In these situations, clients seeking care must pay out of pocket and may not have the money to cover their treatment.

The Family Counseling Center is proud to be a National Health Services Corps site, meaning that the organization serves all patients – regardless of their ability to pay. The organization serves all clients and takes on the costs of those who cannot pay. In 2023, The Family Counseling Center underwrote nearly $100,000 in care for clients who could not pay. That number equates to roughly 1,000 sessions for individuals and families seeking services in order to build a health life, create change, and paint a brighter tomorrow.

“We are asking for our community’s support so that we may continue the essential work of The Family Counseling Center,” said Michael L. Countryman, the organization’s Executive Director. “Every donation, no matter the amount, will contribute to breaking down the barriers to care and providing a lifeline to those who are most vulnerable in our community.”
