2024 Appeal

The Family Counseling Center’s history is rooted in people uniting together for the purpose of creating a better future of our communities.

Our founders saw a need for mental health care in Fulton and Montgomery counties and, over the past 47 years, our organization has grown beyond their biggest dreams. The need for our services, too, has grown. In 1977, we saw 90 clients, in 2023, we worked with nearly 4,500. In 1976, we had seven volunteer counselors, today we have a team of over 80 highly trained, dedicated, and passionate staff.

At The Family Counseling Center, our mission remains resolute: To offer the skills, support, and guidance needed to assist all individuals and families in our service area with living their healthiest lives.

Throughout our journey, your kindness and support has been a cornerstone of our organization’s impact.

The Family Counseling Center is based in the heart of our community. Our school-based counselors work with children from Elementary to High School age in Fulton and Montgomery counties. In 2024, we are expanding our student-focused services to include having staff based at Fulton Montgomery Community College. We believe in the transformative power of mental health care and its capacity to provide positive changes in young lives. Our team, in partnership with school staff, help to empower students and their families to seek the support and guidance they need to navigate mental health challenges and access the services needed to thrive.

It is not secret: We live in a very rural, economically distressed area. Across the country, rural residents face barriers to care – access, acceptability, and availability. These barriers and the stressors of living in rural and semi-rural areas equate to double the suicide risk than the national average, and over double the rates of depression.

In Fulton and Montgomery counties, financial constraint is an added burden. While there is a large portion of our clients who have insurance, some of the services that we provide may not be covered. In these situations, clients seek care but due to circumstances must pay out of pocket and may not have the money to cover their treatment – treatment that will help to keep them active and engaged members of the community. It’s a tough decision. Do they forgo the help they need to improve their life, or do they ask for help? Help for their emotional wellbeing…and help to pay?

We are proud to be a National Health Services Corps site, meaning that The Family Counseling Center serves all patients – regardless of their ability to pay. We serve all clients, and we take on the costs of those who cannot pay. In 2023, we underwrote nearly $100,000 in care for clients who could not pay. That number equates to 1,000 sessions for individuals and families seeking services in order to build a healthy life, create change, and paint a brighter tomorrow.

We are asking for your support to help us continue this essential work by donating to The Family Counseling Center.

Your donation, no matter the amount, will contribute to breaking down barriers and providing a lifeline to those who are most vulnerable in our community. Together, we can make mental health care accessible and empower individuals to lead healthier, happier lives. Your donation enables us to continue to offer essential programs, increase accessibility, and ensure that no individual is left without the support they deserve.

Your generosity can make an immediate and tangible difference in the lives of those struggling. A donation from you will directly fund therapy sessions for clients unable to pay for their session fees, enabling them to continue to access the support and guidance they need. Please consider donating via check or online today. Full donation details are available in the enclose insert.
