The Family Counseling Center is honored to lead a mission both urgent and compassionate: the creation of a Children’s De-escalation Center for youth and teens facing behavioral health challenges. This new facility will be a safe haven for young people in crisis, offering the support, care, and tools they need to find stability, healing, and hope. The fundraising goal was met and construction has begun.
The Purpose of the Center
The Bailey Field Children’s Center will serve as a refuge for children and teens in the midst of emotional or behavioral crises. In moments when they feel overwhelmed, this space will provide a chance to pause, breathe, and begin to heal. By offering immediate support, the Center aims to reduce the need for hospitalization or law enforcement involvement, experiences that can often intensify trauma for a child in crisis.
At the Heart of the Center
Will be a dedicated De-escalation Room – a quiet, sensory friendly environment designed to help youth regulate their emotions and regain a sense of calm. Thoughtfully equipped with items Bailey herself found helpful, such as weighted blankets, fidget tools, soothing lights, and art supplies, the room will create a nurturing space for self-expression, reflection, and recovery.
About Bailey
On September 21, 2020, we lost Bailey Alexandra Field to suicide at the age of just 19. At the time, she was a sophomore at SUNY Delhi, pursuing her dream of working in the Veterinary Science field. Bailey was a young woman of extraordinary depth and compassion. Though she carried her own burdens – struggles she worked hard to keep hidden, she was the first the step forward when others were in pain. Friends often turned to Bailey for, comfort and guidance, and she always gave of herself freely, even when she was hurting the most. She had a gift of being a safe place for others, even when she longed for such a place herself.
Bailey’s smile was radiant, her personality magnetic, her friendship steady and true. She touched countless lives in ways she never realized. During the height of the pandemic, more than 2,000 people gathered to honor her memory, a powerful testament to the love and gratitude she inspired. Others have since shared that Bailey helped save them during their darkest moments – proof of the light she carried, even when she could not see it in herself. Bailey was, and will always be, a blessing. Her life, though far too short, left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She remains a bright and guiding light for her family, her friends, and her community. As we carry her spirit forward, we are committed to honoring her in ways that reflect her kindness, her courage and her unwavering compassion for others.
The Bailey Field Children’s Center will carry her legacy forward, standing as a place where children feel seen, supported, and never alone in their struggles – a living tribute to Bailey’s enduring spirit, offering comfort and resilience for generations to come.
